For us, ‘Muddy Boots’ is an expression of who we are and where we stand – at the practical, hands-on, dig-in end of an industry often seen as full of fluff. Add to that the fact that many of our clients operate in what you might call ‘muddy boot’ industries. We really enjoy getting our feet dirty to get the job done.
We combine an established track record with modern approaches. Over our combined 50 years’ experience in PR and journalism, we’ve gathered a talented bunch of design, website, graphics and video production associates, which means we can offer a one-stop shop for PR and marketing services.
We develop effective communications
strategies perfectly suited to our clients, and then deliver well-written materials and strong media results. Our strengths include our writing skills, meticulous attention to detail and incomparable client service.
We’ve worked with dozens of clients across a range of industries, but the energy and minerals, and food and health sectors represent our heartland.
Our set-up is very simple. Our office is where we are, and we don’t close at 5pm. So our clients don’t help us pay for fancy offices, company cars and receptionists.
Barrie is an experienced journalist who switched to heavy industry PR 30 years ago. He has earned a reputation for the successful handling of sensitive issues in industries such as quarrying, cement, waste and recycling, energy and salt.
The ability to focus tightly on what matters, to translate that into clear strategy and to communicate through good writing and a range of modern media are amongst his key strengths. He is especially fascinated by the challenges of good consultation and community relations.
Rachel – an English graduate – has worked at two of the UK’s most successful PR agencies. She has played an instrumental role in high profile accounts for household names such as HSBC, McDonald’s and O2, as well as government behaviour change campaigns for skills and sexual health.
Her experience of the minerals sector began almost ten years ago, when Rachel project managed the development of virtualquarry.co.uk, a resource which broke new ground in the use of the web as an educational tool.
Rachel’s PR and marketing skills are broad, but she has a particular affection for writing, media relations campaigns including embracing new social media platforms, and events. Her perseverance and attention to detail are legendary.
You would be hard-pressed to find a PR consultancy that doesn’t claim to be creative.
What we like to think is different about Muddy Boots is that we can deliver our communications strategies using a variety of creative vehicles.
Yes, we do have experienced journalists who write well and can sort out the media (social or otherwise). But we also have a rather gifted crew of graphic designers who do snappy things with
brochures, magazines, exhibitions and much more.
We also have some rather talented (non-anorak) web techies, a video guru who is better with TV than many TV people, and an animator who helps us make sense of the most complex planning issues. Put all that together and you have a one-stop creative shop – a place with a real buzz!
Marit is one of our key strategic associates. Her communications experience spans construction, energy, logistics, telecoms, finance, public sector and high tech. Given her Norwegian background, she has also acted as a media spokesperson
for the Norwegian community in the UK following last year's terror attacks.
Marit's remit covers internal and external communications, media relations, community engagement, public affairs, business continuity, corporate social responsibility, and campaigns to support major projects. She was recently Director of Communications & Public affairs for CEMEX UK.
Sue works on a number of our key accounts, bringing 'more welly' to the Muddy Boots team.
Sue has enjoyed an extensive career in sales and marketing, mostly in international roles that have taken her all over the world in a variety of industries including photo, software and
education. In recent years, she has concentrated increasingly on writing projects and project management where her creativity and attention to detail have proved a real bonus.
